Epic Sciences was founded by members of the Kuhn lab to take the assays beyond the research phase and into clinical utility. We have jointly applied for Small Business Technology Transfer Program and Epic Sciences has applied for independent Small Business Innovation Research funds to industrialize these assays. Through external seed funding, Epic Sciences has completed the licensing of the technology from TSRI and is providing funds through a special funded project (SFP) to further investigate rare cell populations. During a 3 year partnering program, Novartis provided funding through a special funded project (SFP) to the Kuhn lab for the exploration of the drugability of protein interfaces. This project particularly focused on Eph Receptor Tyrosine Kinases. This initial research efforts with Novartis have resulted in a series of important definition of these protein interfaces for which the research is now carried out with NIH supported research programs in part jointly with Professor Elena Pasquale at the Burnham Institute
